Kitutu Chache Youth Enterprise Lab

Empowering young people with skills, mentorship and resources to launch businesses.

Overview

Date: 15 March 2025
Location: Mosocho Ward, Kitutu Chache
Partners: Kitutu Chache Youth Association, Mosocho Cooperative Society, St. Stephen’s Church

The Youth Enterprise Lab was launched to equip young entrepreneurs with practical skills and access to markets. Over 100 youth from across Kitutu Chache participated in training sessions on business planning, financial management and leveraging logistics networks. The programme also introduced participants to mentors from Nairobi’s manufacturing and logistics sectors.

What Happened

The lab operated for two weeks, combining classroom sessions with hands‑on projects. Participants developed business ideas ranging from agro‑processing to digital services. Logistics experts offered demonstrations on supply chain management, while local cooperative leaders explained how to access collective marketing channels. On the final day, teams presented their business plans to a panel of mentors.

Why It Matters

With youth unemployment at 67%, initiatives that provide practical skills and confidence are critical. The lab helps young people see business as a viable career path and connects them to mentors who can open doors in growing sectors like manufacturing and logistics. By rooting the programme in Kitutu Chache, it ensures that local ideas and traditions guide economic transformation.

Outcome & What’s Next

At the end of the programme, five promising business ideas received seed grants and continued mentorship. Participants formed a network to support each other and share opportunities. Sev’s team is now exploring a permanent hub in Mosocho to provide year‑round training, internet access and incubation space. Plans are underway to replicate the model in other wards.
